Congress continues to advance the American Data Privacy and Protection Act

An article from the Electronic Privacy Information Center

The House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 53-2 in favor of the American Data Privacy and Protection Act as amended.

The bill would impose special protections for particularly sensitive data and the data of minors, establish digital civil rights safeguards, require transparency of algorithmic decision-making, forbid cross-context behavioral advertising, set data minimization obligations for businesses that collect and use personal data, and provide for enforcement by the Federal Trade Commission, state attorneys general, and individuals.
